Montecassino & Subiaco

In the Footsteps of Saint Benedict

Embark on a sacred journey to two of Italy's most revered monastic sites, where the legacy of Saint Benedict, father of Western monasticism, continues to inspire and guide.

Our pilgrimage begins at the historic Abbey of Montecassino, perched high on a mountain overlooking the beautiful Lazio region. Founded by Saint Benedict in the 6th century, Montecassino is a place of deep prayer and reflection, home to centuries of monastic life, art, and learning. Here, we’ll explore the abbey, visit the tomb of Saint Benedict and his sister Saint Scholastica, and reflect on the Benedictine motto: Ora et Labora "prayer and work".

From Montecassino, we travel to Subiaco, where Saint Benedict spent many years in solitude and prayer. It was in the caves of Subiaco that he experienced profound spiritual growth, and from here he went on to establish twelve monasteries, laying the foundations for the Benedictine order.

This pilgrimage is an invitation to deepen our own spiritual lives, drawing closer to God through the example of Saint Benedict and the timeless peace found in the monastic life.
